How to finish a braid end

You've finished braiding your braid. Now you need to take your braid off the braiding disk or marudai and stabilize the ends to keep them from unravelling.You may want to add a jewelry clasp.

Finishing off the ends for glue in clasp
If you are glueing the braid end into a clasp, you can finish it simply in this way:
Before you take the braid off the disk or marudai, braid an extra half inch or so at the end.
Wrap a piece of waste thread (the red thread in the picture) around the braid at the very end and pull it off.
Wrap regular sewing thread a number of times around the braid where you want the end to be. Tie securely.
Clip off excess thread, then clip braid close to wrapping.
Before you take the braid off the disk or marudai, braid an extra half inch or so at the end.

Wrap regular sewing thread a number of times around the braid where you want the end to be. Tie securely.

Using gel super glue, apply glue to the end of trimmed end of the braid and around the wrapping.

Insert the braid end into the glue in clasp ends. Let dry.

Finishing off the ends for tassle
If you are leaving the braid end long and loose, as for a tassel, you will want to bury your thread inside the braid as follows:
Before you take the braid off the disk or marudai, braid an extra half inch or so at the end.
Wrap a piece of waste thread (the white thread in the picture) around the braid at the very end, remove from disk or marudai.

Thread some regular sewing thread on a sewing needle.
Insert the needle into the braid in inch or so below the point where you will finish it, coming out at the point of finishing.

Pull the thread through until the end is buried inside the braid.

Take a couple of small stitches in place to anchor the thread in place.

Now wrap the thread around the braid a dozen times or so. The wrapping stabilizes the braid end.

Bury the thread end back down the braid.

Clip off extra length.

Take off waste thread, trim loose thread ends to desired tassel length.
Undo the braid so that the tassel is loose.
